Maestro

A profile, drawn in a single pale blue line, rises out of a deep red field. Bursts of pink, blue and white open around it like flowers, and scratchy blue and white strokes run across the head. Where the eye would be, a yellow glow spreads across the face. The surrounding forces do not define the figure. It lives in an active relationship with them: it perceives them, takes them in, and turns them into an inner reality that holds together.

In this painting, reality is actively composed. Like a conductor shaping a living orchestra, a person makes meaning through what they notice and choose, where they put their attention, and how fully they are present — the maestro of their own reality.
