Genesis I is the first sheet of the Genesis I–II pair. It shows form coming out of chaos.

It holds the start of a trace: a first gesture, somewhere between emptiness and structure.

It is the darker sheet of the pair: charcoal is rubbed into almost the whole surface, with a dark vertical stroke on the left and a lighter opening near the center, as if the form has not yet decided whether to appear.
