Surge
Surge is the moment a held state breaks out. Most of these paintings turn around a center — a sun, a white point, a spiral, an eye inside a column of flame — and everything else is thrown outward from it in fast, layered strokes. Two works drop the center: Overload is a mesh of poured and dripped lines, and Ode to Feelings cuts the whole charge down to two flat fields and one curved edge.
The paint is acrylic on canvas, paper and cardboard, heavy in Ascent of Energy, mixed with charcoal in Dance of the Sun. What joins them is one movement: something pressed inside finds its way out.
