Boundaries

Boundaries is about the edge — where a person ends and the world around him begins, where one state stops and the next one starts. In Dressed for Reality a figure made of black contour lines stands beside a dense grid of blocks and signs, a city that looks like a circuit board. The Line of Silence drops the figure: a yellow field over a red one, and a heavy black band laid across the whole canvas between them. Both are acrylic on canvas, and in both the line does the work — it holds a shape together or cuts it in two.
